I like me some Hydrogen. Because taking a random proton and calling it an H+ ion is amusing. |

After I graduated, someone let my personal e-mail slip to my University. I use my wonderful "mark as spam" option for everything they send, and now Thunderbird has learned where to put that crap without my help. ;) |

On the assumption that by "Toadus" you are referring to me (as I see no other Toad's on either page), my apologies for my lack of clarity. I was attempting to address MythGuy's post: "Yeah... I'm skipping several posts because I'm lazy... how exactly can you install Ubuntu and have Windows boot as default? Or even Through the windows boot loader? My Dad refuses to allow Linux and I have to sneak it on my bedroom computer but I still need Windows to be loaded as default." Specifically, I was responding to the part about using the Windows boot loader. I use GRUB myself, and am very familiar with it. If you can't figure out grub, booting Gentoo is hard. ;) The grub configuration file is usually either /boot/grub/grub.conf or /boot/grub/menu.lst. Those files are also frequently symlinked in the /boot directory. |

I'd support the strikethrough idea. It's a clean, no-graphic way to convey the thread status, and lets people make a decision about reading the thread before they click it. I also tend to agree with common moderation practice that discussing locked topics is not allowed, so provided people understand that, I see no reason not to make locked topics obvious. I've run forums for going on 7 years now, and I've only had 2 users that insisted on resurrecting locked topics. My ban button was happy for the exercise. |

Toad here, 24, California. For the record, Toad is an actual RL nickname (even my mother calls me Toad sometimes), not a construction for the Web. I found Decorum via a link IMed to me (#82), and signed on the forums because I couldn't keep myself from talking about Linux. Darcey, great comic! I read through the archives today and it was a very enjoyable read. Keep up the good work. :) |

http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Dual_Boot_from_Windows_Bootloader_(NTLDR)_and_why Provided you can extrapolate from that how to apply the instructions for Gentoo onto whichever Distro you're using, that ought to get you started. Alternatively, you can boot Windows from GRUB or Lilo by changing the default (in GRUB's menu.lst I believe you can just change the index on the default value, e.g. "default 3" for the fourth OS choice listed). If you're running Ubuntu, or another distro that automagically manages GRUB, you might need to tinker through the UI tool. For the record, and by way of introduction, I'm Toad, and all four of my computers are running Linux, wherein I conduct all of my e-ffairs, gaming, and so on. Two desktops, one running Gentoo, the other running Arch (to be Gentoo again once I have all of its upgrades done), and two laptops, both running Ubuntu Gutsy. I use Gnome for a wm, because I'm too lazy to switch in Ubuntu, and e17's lack of developmental progress got me turned off by it. When they get to an RC, I'll try e17 again. I generally use SciTE for text editting, or nano in the commandline, because I grew up with DOS' `edit`. I do have an XP partition on a desktop for some top-end games that aren't yet supported in Cedega/Wine, but I cry every time I use it. |
